Lectures on Modelling

Almost all of my lectures are about modelling to some degree, and for a complete list you should check my web site, but these are talks and lectures that deal specifically with the fundamentals of ecological modelling. Many of the more recent lectures are available on my web site and have links to the text.

  1. William Silvert. 1992. Object Oriented Simulation Programming in Ecological Modelling. Presented at 8th ISEM Int. Conf. on Ecological Modelling.
  2. William Silvert. 1994. The Revolution in Ecology and Population Dynamics. Presentation at a Symposium in Honour of Peter J. Wangersky, Dalhousie University, July 1994.
  3. William Silvert. 1999. Fuzzy Logic and Ecological Indices. PowerPoint presentation at meeting of ICES Working Group on Zooplankton Ecology, Reykjavik, Iceland, April 1999.
  4. William Silvert. 1999. Fuzzy Logic in Natural Resource Modelling. PowerPoint presentation at Resource Modelling Association meeting in Halifax, NS, July 1999.
  5. William Silvert. 1999. Modelling as a Discipline. Keynote address at ICES Young Scientists Conference in Gilleleje, Denmark, 20 November 1999. An expanded version of this paper was published in Int. J. General Systems in 2001. See also a seminar given at IPIMAR (PowerPoint) in February, 1999.
  6. William Silvert. 1999. How do we test models? Do "validation" and "falsification" mean anything? A seminar given at IPIMAR.
  7. William Silvert. 1999. Modelling uptake and clearance dynamics: how do we figure out what is really going on? A seminar given at IPIMAR.
